Davis Disappointed In Recent Defeat

Crewe Alexandra managed a confidence boosting 3-1 win over Gillingham last weekend, but they were unable to keep the positive run going after suffering a defeat by the same score at the hands of Notts County. After the match, manager Steve Davis was disappointed with the outcome, which pushed the team closer to relegation. The winner against Gillingham had given Crewe Alexandra a ray of hope that they could get out of the relegation zone, but this latest defeat has put them firmly back in the mix again. Davies said after the match that his team certainly did not deserve going 3-0 down in the match.

Notts County did not have to do much in order to get the goals, as they ripped the opposition about with two brilliant counter-attacks. The other goal came from a set piece. Davies was especially unhappy at the manner of the goals conceded. This defeat has also raised questions about the possibility of getting 3 points from next week’s match against Coventry City, who have little to play for in the remainder of the campaign. However, Steven Pressley has been looking to strengthen the team and Coventry could have a couple of important names by the time this match kicks off.

“We were stunned by the result. It didn’t deserve to be 3-0 in fairness, but the important thing is tonight was always going to be the first goal. Depending on who got that it would decide how the game was going to be set up through the rest of it. The manner we conceded all of the goals was disappointing – two counter attacks and a set play. We tried to play football and we haven`t had enough in the final third,” said Crewe Alexandra’s Davies. For Notts County, this was the second consecutive win.
