Crewe Alexandra has some injury issues ahead of their game against Grimsby Town on Saturday.

Indeed they will be missing a couple of players such as Eddie Nolan and Chris Porter. The manager said that the players would be facing a late fitness test to find out whether they can play in the game against Grimsby.

The Crewe Alexandra coach David Artell said that Chris Porter is a major doubt for the match as he has picked out some knocks in the previous game. The manager said that this is the reason why he did not play against Newcastle Under-21 team as he did not want the player to aggravate his injuries. He said that the medical team would assess him before the game to find out whether there is any risk in playing him.

On the other hand, Eddie Nolan played in the match against Newcastle despite having an injury, and David Artell said that this time they would have to assess him carefully. He said that the match against Grimsby Town would be a physical one and it is important that the players are at their peak in this game. Continue reading 'Crewe Alexandra injury issues'»

Crewe Alexandra FC have reportedly abandoned reported interests in former Manchester United star Wes Brown.

The 37-year old has been an object of speculation to join the Alex following his release by Blackburn. However, the assistant manager of the club Kenny Lunt revealed that the player reneged on a planned meeting.

“He was supposed to come in and speak to us. He never did come in. It would have been nice to sit down with him,” Lunt told BBC Radio Stoke.

“We’ve moved on and we’re now looking at different options. I wouldn’t say there’s no chance but we’ve got a list of players that we’re looking at,” he added.

On the other hand, Crewe Alex has confirmed that defender George Ray has agreed a two year deal with the club. the new contract would run until the summer of 2019. Ray has played at least 100 games for the club as at the final day of the last term. The 23-year old is expected to continue in his current capacity with the League Two side. David Artell comments on Crewe Alexandra

David Artell doesn’t think that there is no reason for Crewe Alexandra to remain motivated in the on-going season anymore.

It’s a certainty now that Crewe will not be one of the two teams to be getting demoted to national League as they have established a 9-point lead over Hartlepool which is at the second last position in the League Two standings.

That was Crewe’s main target when Artell had begun his stint as a coach earlier in the year, to avoid demotion and they have been able to fulfil that target.

Now what’s the motivation for them for the couple of games that they still have in hand? Is there any motivation at all? That’s the question because the results of those remaining games are going to be irrelevant.

If Crewe wins, they may move a couple of positions higher from their current position of 17th, but, that won’t have any real meaning because that will not bring them in contention for the title or anything. Continue reading 'David Artell comments on Crewe Alexandra'»

Crewe Alexandra coach David Artell was furious after his side surrendered a 1-0 lead to lose against bottom side Newport County.

He said that this was a disappointing result and that he believes that his club has come back again to square one.

He said that he was angry with the manner his team performs especially in the second half and he feels that they got what they deserved.

David Artell said that his players surrendered the possession of the ball too easily and they were beaten to every challenge. He said that there was no aggressiveness and determination from his players and they surrendered the ball at the slightest challenge.

He said that his team was so bad on that day that they made Newport County appears to be playing like Brazil. Continue reading 'David Artell furious after match'»

GUTHRIE: WE’VE LET EVERYONE DOWN

Jon Guthrie insists Crewe Alexandra’s players must now show the stuff they are made of as they look to resuscitate their poor run this season.

An excellent start to the current campaign is becoming a history following their run of just two victories in their last 16 matches in all competitions. The poor run has left the Alex sliding down the League Two table. They occupied the 14th spot ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Cambridge United. Crewe remains just four points outside the play-off places but has issues that need to be addressed at both ends of the pitch. They’ve failed to score in three of their last four matches, and record only one clean sheet in eight consecutive games.

“It’s times like this you have to prove your worth,” said 24-year-old Guthrie. He admitted that it had not been a good period for the team, noting that their performance and result has been below expectations.

He added: “Football can change quickly, we started well, but now we need to go on a little run again. Everyone has to stick together, the whole club – the management, the fans, the players – we are in it together.” Continue reading 'GUTHRIE: WE’VE LET EVERYONE DOWN'»
