FIVE WITHOUT A WIN

Crewe Alexandra went five matches without a win after the 4-0 defeat suffered at the hands of Notts County. After the match, a disappointed Steve Davies said that his team had a lot of opportunities and they were unlucky to come away with this heavy defeat. This increases the pressure on manager Davies, the club has fallen into the relegation zone following this defeat. Their last victory came in the 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley in the football League Trophy. One has to go all the way back to August in order to see Crewe Alexandra winning a league match.

Davies said after the encounter that the team made some silly mistakes, which were punished heavily by the opposition. He has recalled that the club had a couple of great opportunities to go in front early in the match. The outcome of the match would have been totally different had those goals gone in. Confidence is proving to be a major problem for the club, and they seem to be caught up in a vicious circle. The next match will be in the Football league trophy against Fleetwood Town and it will give Davies and his men a great opportunity to get back to form.

“If you haven’t been you’d think we’d been thrashed but if you have been you will have seen a much better performance. We had two or three great chances early on and if they had gone in it may have been different. I am hugely disappointed by the result but encouraged by the performance. Their goals were out of nothingĀ  but we were punished for every little mistake, we are suffering for it. We are lacking confidence but the players can’t get their heads down they have to keep working at it,” said Davis after the match.
