Torquay manager Martin Ling has said that Crewe Alexandra can forget the possibility of signing Mark Ellis if they are not ready to increase the transfer fee. The 21-year-old defender Mark Ellis is out of contract at the end of next season, but that is not enough to convince Martin Ling that he needs to sell the player for as much as possible. Martin Ling has said that he has put a price on the player and will not be interested in selling him unless it is met. Torquay have offered Mark Ellis a two year deal back in January, but the 21-year-old defender is yet to agree terms with the club.

He will be able to leave on a free transfer at the end of next season. Crewe Alexandra have been spoken of as the firm favourites for his signature, but Martin Ling has said that Torquay have not given permission for any club to speak with their defender. Even if Crewe Alexandra sign him on a free transfer next season, they will be still obliged to pay Torquay a transfer fee due to the fact that he is under 24 years old. In such a scenario, the case will be taken to a tribunal who will then decide a transfer fee for the player.

“A club has made an offer which doesn’t come near to our valuation, so there is a long way to go on that one, even if Mark leaves at all,” said Martin Ling regarding the future of Mark Ellis. Crewe Alexandra recently lost their captain Dave Artell. Hence, it is thought that Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has been looking at the possibility of using Mark Ellis as the ideal replacement. The club are also looking at signing Callum Kennedy from Swindon.
