DAVIES CLOSE TO SIGNING
The Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davies has said that he is extremely close to signing a new contract with the club that will see the ’18 month’ rolling contract extend even further. The 47-year-old was offered this new contract more than two months ago. However, there have been several negotiations among the way, which have delayed the possibility of the manager signing up. Those issues have finally been sorted and Davies has revealed that he will be making an announcement on the new contract over the next few days. Steve Davis has so far been able to guide the club to a mid-table finish this season.
However, the recent form of the club might be encouraging them to potentially challenge for the play-offs position because they have been defeated only once in the last five matches. Further, there exists only a seven point advantage between them and the sixth placed Notts County. Davies, however, will be remembered for the way he has saved the club from relegation when he arrived. Back then, Crewe Alexandra were in the relegation zone, but they were then promoted quite impressively through the play-offs under his management. During this period, Davies has been on a three-month rolling contract, but it will now be improved to an 18 month rolling contract.
“I’m very close with the contract. It’s in the hands of the solicitor. It’s just a question of looking over it and putting pen to paper, which I’m very pleased about. I want to stay and push this club as far as I can. We’ve sat down and spoken about it and I’d be delighted to stay here longer and see this job through,” said the 47-year-old. Due to the incredible performance at Crewe Alexandra, he has already attracted the attention from a number of clubs across England.
