DAVIS LEFT UNHAPPY

Despite getting the three points from the recent match against Scunthorpe United, the Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis was not especially happy. He has said that the only positives that the club can take out of the match were the three points and the clean sheet. Crewe Alexandra managed the 1-0 win over Scunthorpe to put them in great confidence going into the Johnson’s Paint Trophy North final against Coventry City during the weekend. This was an extremely important result for the league position as well given that the club suffered a demoralising 3-1 defeat against Bournemouth only last weekend.

As a result of this victory, Crewe move into the 13th position in the table with 43 points on the board. The club managed to score the only goal of the match through a goal from Leitch-Smith in the 75th minute. Prior to taking the lead, the team had come under intense pressure from the opposition. Davies has said that his team are clearly under the cosh and could have easily gone behind. Due to the fact that they were extremely lethargic, they were unable to get the fluency going in the match. He has said that the penalty given to Crewe was harsh, but they should have been given two last weekend.

“We got the points and the only real positives were the points and the clean sheet. I thought we really struggled today, we dropped off the pace of the game. Neither side could impose themselves. They had the better chances I have to say and had they have gone in the game would have changed dramatically. We were a bit lethargic, couldn’t really get any fluency in our play. We got lucky with the penalty, I thought it was dubious,” said Davis. The next league match will be against Notts County.
