DAVIS HAPPY WITH WIN

The Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has said that he is extremely happy with the performance of his players following the 2-1 win over Scunthorpe United. Crewe Alexandra were facing Scunthorpe United in the midweek encounter. The club was hoping to improve on the opening day defeat at the hands of Notts County. Even though they may have begun the campaign with a convincing 5-0 win over Hartlepool United, it was a match that has least significance due to the fact that it is a league cup match. Steve Davis has made it a priority for the club to be challenging for the top honours in the league this season.

As a result, he made sure that the team was extremely focused for the match against Scunthorpe United. They delivered the perfect result for the manager after they secured a 2-1 win over the promotion rivals. Leitch-Smith opened the scoring for Crewe Alexandra after just 1 min. This extremely good start to the match was soon nullified by the equaliser from Scunthorpe United in the form of a goal by Grella in the 15th minute. However, a goal from Murphy in the 73st minute provided the club with all three points in the match.

“It was a tough game for us tonight but I was pleased with the way players responded after Saturday’s defeat to Notts County. We found it hard going in the first half. It was a tough night but the players dug in and got us the result. We made a great start through AJ and he is capable of scoring goals like that. The two substitutes had an impact and full credit to Harry. He has only signed today and showed a sublime piece of skill to help create the winning goal,” said Davis after the match.
