Davies On Verge Of Losing Job

Crewe Alexandra have one of the worst records in the football league right now after having lost six matches in a row. Their seventh defeat of the season came in the form of a 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Rochdale in the Football League trophy. The recent form sheet does not make a good reading for the club and the manager Stephen Davies, who is on the verge of losing his job if results do not improve quickly. Crewe Alexandra were expected to struggle in the League One this season, but that would have been expecting the monumental collapse.

The season started with a 2-1 defeat against Fleetwood Town, but Crewe appeared to have pulled things together after a 2-0 away victory against Barnsley. Since then, the team has been going for a slide which has left Davies wondering at his next move. The manager said after the match that the defending was simply not up to the mark, but he is confident of turning around this difficult situation. The club only narrowly managed to avoid relegation last season and they were expected to face a series of struggles one more, but few would have expected struggles of this proportion.

The club goes into the match against Port Vale significantly low on confidence, but Davies is confident of getting a result. “The goals haven’t come about because they have opened us up with good play we have just gifted them the goals. The first, there was no pressure on the cross, Brad (Inman) doesn’t track the man and then he gets a free header. That’s been a culmination of how we’ve conceded goals last season and so far this season. You can’t gift goals like that at any level and you won’t win games conceding goals like that,” said Davis.
