Promotion playoff is not achievable for Crewe Alexandra even if it’s still mathematically possible. To this effect, Artell want to learn more about his players in the final five games of the English League One this season.

A possible push for a playoff spot was hampered by the recent run of just one win in the last five league matches including the defeat to Wigan Athletic at the weekend. Hosts Wigan Athletic ran out 2-0 winners in a game that Crewe Alexandra finished with ten men. They played the final 20 minutes with ten men.

Since beating Northampton Town 1-0 away from home last month, Crewe Alexandra have won one, drawn one and lost three games in the league including the abovementioned Wigan game. The club recorded just four points from the maximum 15 points available.

After the impressive victory over Northampton Town, Crewe Alexandra lost 2-1 at home to league leaders Hull City who are on course to secure promotion back to the English Championship after one season in the third tier of club football in England. Hull City had suffered relegation at the end of the English Championship last season.

After the Hull City game, Crewe Alexandra returned to winning ways with the 2-0 away victory over MK Dons. That result was followed by the 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Oxford United at home. They then played out a goalless draw at home to Portsmouth before the Wigan loss at the weekend.
