CREWE BACK TO BASICS

There have been many suggestions that Crewe Alexandra players have become overconfident in recent weeks after they come into the new Championships season on the back of an unbeaten record. However, the manager Stephen Davies has said that he is confident that the players will not be thinking about the unbeaten record and will be looking to start the new season in the best possible manner. Crewe Alexandra have not lost in 19 league matches that goes into last season, while they have also not been defeated in the 11 pre-season friendlies they have played. Many have put them as one of the favourites to achieve promotion this season.

The Crewe Alexandra manager Stephen Davies, though, believes that his players are extremely confident about beating any opposition, but they are not complacent. The opening match of the season will be against Hartlepool United, while Alexandra will be facing one of the favourites to get promotion – Notts County – in the second match. Stephen Davies will have a number of options when it comes to choosing his formation because he has the personnel to choose either the 4-3-3 formation or the 4-4-2 formation. Midfielder Luke Murphy is unlikely to make it for the first match of the season.

“There is still a glow from Wembley, but there’s a fine line between that and being confident and excited for the new season. You can get carried away with it all, but the players know they have to continue with the hard work. If we can do that we will have a successful season. It’s a good test to play someone who finished halfway up our division last year, and they’ve strengthened since then. It will be a good gauge of where we are,” said the manager ahead of the first match of the season.
