Crewe Alexandra FC have reportedly abandoned reported interests in former Manchester United star Wes Brown.

The 37-year old has been an object of speculation to join the Alex following his release by Blackburn. However, the assistant manager of the club Kenny Lunt revealed that the player reneged on a planned meeting.

“He was supposed to come in and speak to us. He never did come in. It would have been nice to sit down with him,” Lunt told BBC Radio Stoke.

“We’ve moved on and we’re now looking at different options. I wouldn’t say there’s no chance but we’ve got a list of players that we’re looking at,” he added.

On the other hand, Crewe Alex has confirmed that defender George Ray has agreed a two year deal with the club. the new contract would run until the summer of 2019. Ray has played at least 100 games for the club as at the final day of the last term. The 23-year old is expected to continue in his current capacity with the League Two side.

The manager David Artell recently committed his short term future to the club after agreeing a deal with the club. he has been managing the team without a formal deal since January but the club has now made an official a 12-month rolling contract. The coach said it was not a big deal for him as he was focused on doing many other things for the club.

Artell has signed Michael Raynes, Chris Porter and Jordan Bowery already while others have been linked to the club. They lost Ollie Turton to Blackpool while Jon Guthrie preferred Walsall.
