English third-tier side Crewe Alexandra are hopeful of retaining their top scorer Chris Porter beyond the summer. The 36-year old was offer a cautious deal of a year following talks of extension but the forward turned it down instantly, per reports. The initial three-year deal ran down, but the club is keen on retaining him based on his performance.


Porter has showed desire to remain at the club,but he insists that the terms must be appealing. This is a player that has options and is keen on a final good deal before retirement calls.He confirmed that the club offered him a deal, but nothing has been agreed yet. He says he expects more offers in the following weeks as most leagues and divisions round up the 2019/20 season.

League Two sees Crewe Alexandra closing in on the top position. The recent game that was concluded against Salford City finished with a score of 4-1 in favor of this team. It has helped them achieve a position that leaves them a point behind the leaders at League Two, Exeter City. Midfield players Harry Pickering and Lowery were able to strike soon after five minutes had elapsed in the second period of the game. It helped put Crewe back in command. The header that Chris Porter gave helped to cancel out Adam Rooney who had been putting in effort for his team Salford.

Lowery added in a second goal when eight minutes were remaining. It helped to seal the seventh win for the team in this league and this season. Exeter, on the other hand, continued to hold their top position since they gained a tie with Newport County at 1-1 besides their 10 matches being successful in the league so far. This was the first time that Crewe Alex was playing against Salford City. The game was at Gresty Road and here the visitors were able to rise through the ranks and now they have found their feet. They have been specialists in the division, especially in five out of nine games. Grimsby Town was their last win that has boosted their belief that they can live up to the expectations of the fans.

Crewe Alexandria boss David Artell has revealed that his team would not miss captain George Ray who is suspended for their next two matches.  The centre–back picked up his 10th booking of the season in the stalemate at Cambridge United on Tuesday which has triggered the mandatory two-match suspension.

This means that the rugged defender would miss the home clash against Crawley Town this weekend and the trip to Mansfield Town. Artell speaking after the game was critical of his defender insisting that it was a silly offense that resulted in the yellow card.

Crewe Alexandra’s head manager David Artell recently hinted towards the situation in the club when it comes to transferring of players. The head coach did not show much interest in revealing whether or not the club is being able to recruit new faces. However, he did mention that they do look forward to rope in new players by the end of the month.

It has been realized that after lending out Michael Raynes to Hartlepool United, the Club is falling short of players. Apart from Raynes, the club had sold off Brad Walker to Shrewsbury and had returned players like Kevin O’Connor and Corey Whelan was sent back to their parent clubs. Even Lewis Reilly was given on loan to Curzon Ashton.
