Crewe Alexandra in Great Form

Crewe Alexandra have been in fine form over the last few weeks and this has helped them move closer to safety.

A run of four matches without defeat – this run also included three victories – saw the team move within goal difference of getting out of the drop zone, but a 2-1 defeat against Notts County means that the team need to find winning form once again.

They could achieve history in the process of doing so after they visit Port Vale this weekend with an opportunity to do the double over their opposition for the first time.

Both clubs enjoy fierce rivalry, but Crewe Alexandra have not managed to beat Port Vale twice in a single season in all of their history. The two teams have come up against each other on 65 occasions with Crewe Alexandra winning 15 matches.

After a 2-1 win back in September, Steve Davis and his team will be confident of getting three points once again when they play against Port Vale this weekend. More importantly, a victory will help them move outside the drop zone and confirm their brilliant upturn in form. It was only a few weeks ago when Crewe looked dead and buried in the League One relegation zone.

“We have always enjoyed going there with the open expanse of the pitch.Unlike our own pitch it gives us a chance to play and I think our lads have met the challenge very well over the years I have been here. They have raised their game and we have enjoyed going there and the occasion. You have to embrace it. Hopefully it’s a piece of history in the making,” said the Crewe Alexandra manager, who does have a few injury concerns ahead of the match. Jon Guthrie suffered a knee injury in the previous match and he is doubtful for this encounter.
